Gallery/Showroom

The
gallery/showroom at the pottery offers a wide variety of
wheel-thrown and hand-built stoneware items for sale. Visitors may
schedule an appointment by calling 703-771-3329 or by sending an
email to
glenfarmpottery@aol.com.
The pottery showroom at the farm is also located in the lower level
of the barn, near the studio.
Decorative marks on the sides of this 18-inch tall vase were made with the wax-resist technique, whereby liquid wax is brushed on before glazing. The wax prevents the glaze from adhering, so the areas exposed are rendered brown in the salt firing.

Patterns on the sides of this 13-inch high (9.5-inch wide) covered
jar were done with a handmade stamp impressed into the clay while it
was still moist. The jar was glazed, then scraped with a piece of
metal, removing the glaze from the highest parts of the surface but
not from the depressions, thereby enhancing the patterns.
The wax-resist method was used also on this 13.3-inch plate to make the design in the center and on the rim.

A greenish-yellow glaze was poured on this 12-inch vase to achieve
the pattern. Craters in the surface were caused by the introduction
of salt into the kiln at a high temperature.
